Line By Line

This depends on how much time you would like to spend having the students create their own application. If you would prefer to have them work on a previously existing application, type up a series of questions and only one line in a document, save it, and have students open yours up. For example:

Place the document on each students' computer. For instructions how to do this, click here.

If students don't know how to open a document, you may want to do that for them in advance on their computers.

• Demonstrate how to type a line. Then show how to copy and paste using the Edit Menu or the tool bar buttons.
• Working in pairs, have students create a short job or credit application with three to five questions. For example for those more advanced:
• How long have you lived at your present address?_____________________________________________
• Have students type one blank line after the first question, but use copy and paste to make the other lines.
• Then have learners read questions to their partners and ask them to respond orally, while the interviewer types the answers on the form. Alternatively, students can print the form and write the answers.
• If some students finish before the rest of the class, they can practice cutting and pasting by changing the order of their questions.
  

• For more advanced work, have students copy and paste something to another document.
• Demonstrate to students how to copy and paste drawn objects from MS Paint (Start menu/Programs/Accessories/Paint) or previously inserted clip art (In Word: Insert/Picture/Clip Art)
• Students talk about and develop other uses for copying and pasting.
