OBJECTIVES:
To help the students feel more comfortable with the interview process, and to learn how it is
done.
To help the students become familiar with note-taking, and practice asking questions.
To help the students enhance their listening, oral and written skills.
To help the students understand the final project.
MATERIALS:
Computer, modem, CD-ROM, a telecommunications network providing access to the World
Wide Web, and a bookmark for Oral History sites
Word Processing Software
CD-ROM (such as Grolier's Encyclopedia)
Journals for students to record information
Tape recorder and tapes
PROCEDURES:
Two persons model the interview process.
Following the model interview students are allowed time to ask questions about the interview
process which they just observed.
ACTIVITIES:
Students interview a teacher or a volunteer to practice what they have just observed. They first
write down ten questions that they would like to ask. Take notes during the interview, and then
write their teacher's responses to their questions. Several students may interview the same
teacher at the same time. Each student writes down only the teacher's responses to their own
questions.
Students decide who they would like to interview for their oral history project, and prepare
questions to ask during that interview.
